Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect an ink residual amount in a container by a method wherein an ink receiving container is formed from a bag container and distortion of the container deformed in accordacne with the ink residual amount is detected by a distortion gauge applied to the part thereof. CONSTITUTION:A lead switch 4 is arranged at a position facing against a side passage 5 of an ink container 1. When an amount of an ink 2 in the ink container 1 is reduced, a float 3 in the side passage 5 is lowered corresponding to a liquid level of the ink 2 to operate said lead switch 4 and, thereby, display of an ink residual amount is carried out. Herein, by using a light emitting means 6 and a light receiving means 7 in-place-of the lead switch, the ink esidual amount is detected and, when the amount of the opaque ink is reduced and a level thereof is lowered to a predetermined level or less, the light receiving means 7 receives light from the light emitting means 6 to enable to detect the ink residual amount. As described above, by a simple constitution and an inexpensive means, the ink residual amount can be detected accurately.
