Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate photogravure process by using a dot original plate for offset printing or the like, by a method wherein an output correlated to the proportion of dot area in a predetermined area on a dot matrix original plate is generated by a scanner, and a plate material is engraved by an electronic engraving machine while utilizing the output from the scanner.
CONSTITUTION: The dot matrix original plate 1 is scanned with a light spot by a scanning head, and the transmitted light or reflected light is inputted as a photoelectric current into an interface device 6. The device 6 converts the inputted photoelectric current into an electric current suitable for obtaining a continuous tone image and the thus corrected current is passed through the electronic engraving machine 5. A contacting needle 9 of the machine 5 is driven by the corrected current to engrave the plate material, thereby obtaining a photogravure original plate 2. The interface device 6 is provided with a controlling part 11, a line memory part 12, a calculating part 13, a buffer circuit 14 and an averaging circuit part 15 which are wired.
