Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the number of ports, simplify the manufacture and reduce the cost of a cutting tool holder by eliminating the need for a split collet.
CONSTITUTION: A cutting tool holder consists of a body 1, a tightening nut 2 attached thereto, and a thrust ring 4 supported by the nut 2 via a ball screw mechanism 3 which has balls 13 inserted between a thread 13 provided on the outer surface of the ring 4 and a thread 12 provided on the inner surface of the nut 2 and moves the ring 4 up and down within a gap 14 by the thrust of the thread when the nut 2 is turned clockwise or counterclockwise. The ring 4 in its inner surface has a tapered surface 15 which matches a tapered surface 7 of the gripping part. The foregoing configuration reduces the number of parts, simplifies the manufacture and reduces the cost of a holder for cutting tools such as a drill, reamer, tap, etc.
