Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent resonance, by supporting the front end of residential section and the rear end of an engine casing on the rigid bulkheads of a hull and supporting the rear end of the residential section and the front end of the engine casing on the unrigid structural part of the hull to heighten the natural frequency of the residential section and the engine casing.
CONSTITUTION: A residential section 1 is supported at its front wall on the rigid bulkhead 5 of a hull and at its rear wall on the unrigid part of the hull. An engine casing 2 is supported at its rear wall on the rigid bulkhead 8 of the hull and at its front wall on the unrigid part of the hull. The residential section 1 and the engine casing 2 are located at an appropriate distance from each other. The tops of the section 1 and the casing 2 are coupled to each other by a connecting beam 4. The center of vibration of the residential section 1 is located at the bottom of its front wall. The center of vibration of the engine casing 2 is located at the bottom of its rear wall. According to this constitution, the natural frequency of the entire upper part of a ship is heightened to avoid resonance.
