Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve recording of high quality stably at a high speed by using two light sources differing in wavelength for recording and focus control, and by using a recording medium having high absorptivity for the wavelength of the recording light source. CONSTITUTION:Recording light of wavelength lambda2 from a laser diode 102 is written on a disk 1 by way of a beam splitters 82 and 81, and an objective lens 6. Focus control light of wavelength lambda2 from a laser diode 102, on the other hand, is passed through beam splitters 83 and 81 and the objective lens 6 and focused on the disk 1 via a lens actuator 7. Its reflected light is photodetected by a couple of photodetectors 203, whose outputs are inputted to a differential amplifier 11, thereby driving the lens actuator 7 on the basis of the differential output. For the disk, a recording material which absorbs light of wavelength lambda2 well and reflects the other light of wavelength lambda1 is used. Thus, recording of high quality is achieved stably in a short time.
