Abstract

PURPOSE: To decreases weight of a rack bar and reduce its cost of manufacture, by forming the rack bar with insertion of a short size solid rod into a long size pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A rack bar 30 applies raw materials of a short size solid round rod 30A in a state not machined and a long size pipe 30B, and is manufactured in such a manner that the solid round rod 30A is inserted into the pipe 30B at a prescribed position, and places of the pipe 30B located in both ends of the solid round rod 30A are radially contracted throughout full circumference to fix the solid round rod 30A, then such solid round rod 30A and the pipe 30B as prepared and applied a process of cutting to form a rack gear 30a, finally mounting screw holes 30d, 30e for ball joints are drilled at both ends.
