Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate adjustment of preload of a movable pivot by constituting the tilting-pad type bearing equipped with a fixed pivot and a movable pivot so as to permit adjustment of the pressure inside the cylinder chamber of a cylinder for supporting the movable pivot.
CONSTITUTION: A tilting-pad type bearing is equipped with fixed pivots 2a and 2b and a movabe pivot 10 which are arranged at intervals of 120° in a bearing housing 1, and supports a rotary shaft 8 through the pads 7aW7c installed at each top part of the pivots 2a, 2b, and 10. The movable pivot 19 is slidably supported through a preload spring 11 in the cylinder chamber 9A of the cylinder 9 installed in the bearing housing 1. The cylinder chamber 9A communicates to the atmosphere a low pressue chamber 14 through a valve 15, and the preload acting onto the movable pivot 10 can be adjusted by controlling the turning of the valve 15.
