Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled colorant, which is excellent in colored image retention, light resistance, plasticizer resistance, etc., as compared with colorants based on crystal violet lactone, by using a specific triphenylmethane. CONSTITUTION:A triphenylmethane (e.g., as represented by formula IV or V) of formula I or II (where X is H, a halogen, methyl group, or methoxy group, R1 is H or methyl group, and R2 is phenyl or benzyl group, or R1 and R2 together may form a group of formula III) is used as a colorant for pressure-sensitive heat-sensitive recording paper. The colorant having a mechanism of developing color when contaced with atmospheric oxygen, different from lactone-type compounds, takes time to develop colors. Thus, the signal use of the colorant is not suitable for the case where quick color development is required, but the combined use of this colorant as a secondary agent with lactone compounds is very promising.
