Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent binary-coded picture without reference to whether the texture level of a character picture is high or low, by setting the best threshould level by utilizing an area, which corresponds to density, as data. CONSTITUTION:When three-line density information is stored in a cyclic register 6 through a shift register part 1, a binary-coding part 3 sets temporary threshold levels for respective density level and then finds binary-coded picture to find an area-number ratio 2. This picture is scanned over the entire picture by the cyclic register and a frequency is counted in the internal memory of a threshould- level arithmetic part 4 from some area-number ratio. Once the area-number ratio which corresponds to one density level is found, the threshould level for the binary- coding part 3 is varied to repeat the same operation for each density level, thus obtaining the distribution state of the density. In this way, a threshould-level arithmetic part 4 finds the frequency distribution of the area-number ratio to the density lastly, thereby setting the best threshould level.
