Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an antistatic property by vapor-depositing metallic oxide layers on a polyester support. CONSTITUTION:On a support a tin oxide layer and a silicon oxide layer are vapor- deposited in order. To deposit each of the layers are metal is evaporated in a high vacuum by an indirect resistance heating method or an elecron beam heating method, and the vapor is condensed on the surface of the support. The resulting metallic layer is forced to be oxidized by glow discharge or nonpolar discharge under reduced pressure or oxygen-substituted reduced pressure. The preferred thickness of the tin oxide layer is 20-600Angstrom from the viewpoint of an antistatic property and optical density, and that of the silicon oxide layer is 300-1,500Angstrom . The tin oxide layer has electric conductivity and shows a superior antistatic property even at low humidity as well as high transparency. The deposited layers are then coated with an under coat layer and a photosensitive emulsion layer.
