Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a growth promotor effective for germination and growth of plants, consisting of a highly water-absorptive resin powder in which particles having a particle size within a specified range are contained in a specified proportion or higher.
CONSTITUTION: A promotor consists of a highly water-absorptive powder, 70wt% or more of which is particles having a particle size of 8W24 mesh. Examples of said highly water-absorptive resins are a saponified product of a starch-acrylonitrile graft copolymer, a crosslinked polyacryate salt and a crosslinked polyethylene oxide. Among these highly water-absorptive resins, those absorbing water of at least 50 times the weight of the resin are preferred. When the amount of the particles having a particle size of 8W24 mesh is less than 70wt% of the whole amount, that is, when the amount of fine powder is increased, there is a tendency to inhibit germination and growth of plants rather than promoting. Thus, such an amount of the particles having a particle size of 8W24 mesh is not preferred. In blending this plant growth promotor with soil or sand, it is desirable to use the promotor in an appropriate amount of 0.05wt% or more depending on the quality of soil, kinds of plants, rainfall, etc.
