Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a waterstopping agent for underwater boring, which makes it possible to prevent stabilizing agent from migrating into a sandy layer and, also to prevent underground water from oozing out from sandy layer, containing, as main components, a fibrous material and neutralized red mud.
CONSTITUTION: A waterstopping agent is prepd. by mixing a fibrous material and neutralized red mud and/or its analog together as main components. Said red mud is a residue obtained in the production of alumina from bauxite by Bayer's process and is obtd. by separating insoluble matters from sodium aluminate soln. obtd. by the extraction of bauxite with an alkali soln. at an elevated temperature. In the neutralization of red mud, its pH is usually adjusted to 6W8. Examples of analogs of red mud are slag, blast furnace slag and nonselfhardening cement. Examples of fibrous materials are waste pulp, water paper, asbestos, synthetic fibers and cotton waste.
