Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain titled polymer excellent in brittleness and flame retardancy without wasting the organic polyisocyanate, by employing a compound mutually soluble in a polyol, obtained from an amine and an unsaturated discarboxylic acid as a polycondensation catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An organic polyisocyanate such as tolylene diisocyanate, diphenylmethane diisocyanate, is polymerizd by using, as a polymerization catalyst, at least one member selected from the compounds of formales I and II, wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1W18C alkyl or hydroxylalkyl, M is an alkali metal and a group of formula III is a cyclic amine, for example, a group of formula IV or V. This catalyst is mutually soluble well in an active hydrogen-containing compound typified by a polyol and there is no need of using water. Accordingly, the organic polyisocyanate is free from loss due to combination with water. It is possible to produce an organic polyisocyanate polymer excellent in properties such as brittleness and flame retardancy.
