Abstract
1412818 Polyurethane foams BAYER AG 28 June 1973 [28 June 1972] 30784/73 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2] Flame proof, open-cell polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate with a compound which contains active hydrogen atoms and has a M.W. of from 400 to 16,000 in the presence of water and/or an organic expanding agent and in the presence of an asymmetrical aromatic diamine corresponding to any of the following general formulae wherein R and R<SP>11</SP> each represents -CH 3 , -C 2 H 5 , -C 8 H 7 , -CH(CH 3 ) 2 , -C 4 H 9 or -CH 2 -CH 2 -OH, R<SP>1</SP> represents -O-CH 3 , -O-C 2 H 5 , -O-(CH 2 ) 2 -OH, -O-(CH 2 ) 2 -O-CH 3 , -O-(CH 2 ) 2 -O-C 2 H 5 , -CH 3 , -C 2 H 5 , -C 3 H 7 , -CH(CH 3 ) 2 , C 4 H 9 , -CO-CH 3 , -CO-O-C 2 H 2 , -CO-O-C 3 H 7 , -CO-O-C 4 H 9 , -CO-O-(CH 2 ) 2 -OH, -CO-O-(CH 2 ) 2 -O-CH 3 or -CO-NH 2 and R<SP>111</SP> represents -O-CH3, -O-C 2 H 5 , -O-(CH 2 ) 2 -OH, -O-(CH 2 ) 2 -O-CH 3 , -CH 3 , -C 2 H 5 , -C 3 H 7 , CH(CH 3 ) 2 , or -C 4 H 9 . The diamine is suitably present in the reaction mixture in an amount of 0À5 to 20% by weight based on the weight of the active hydrogen containing compound. Suitably the active hydrogen containing compound is a polyether at least 10% of whose hydroxyl groups are primary hydroxyl groups. The polyisocyanate is preferably one containing carbodiimide groups, urethane groups, allophanate groups, isocyanurate groups, urea groups or biuret groups. The diamines may be prepared by the acid condensation of two or more aromatic monoamines with formaldehyde (see Division C2).
