Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optical switch for an optical data bath system with low cost by arranging four collimate lenses at each inlet and outlet port and by using one movable total reflection mirror. CONSTITUTION:Collimating lenses 2a-2d that compensates for outgoing and incident function of light among optical fibers 1a-1d at respective ports P1-P4 are placed near the end surfaces of each fiber and a total reflection mirror 3 having a total reflection plane 3a is arranged at a position shown in the figure. In an ordinary mode, the total reflection mirror 3 escapes outside an area of parallel light 5, 7 as shown in fig 3 and connections among ports P1-P2, P3-P4 are performed. On the other hand, in a by-pass mode, the total reflection mirror 3 is, as shown in fig. 4, inserted such that the total reflection surface 3a is perpendicular to a plane formed with the parallel light 5, 7 at an intersection of parallel light 5, 7, and a connection between ports P1-P4 is enabled.
