Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove organic substances from waste water with high efficiency without necessity of pretreatment such as pH adjustment or the like, in the treatment of waste water containing phenol and formaldehyde with H2O2, by using a solid having a rough surface.
CONSTITUTION: In oxidizing waste water containing phenol and formaldehyde, from a synthetic resin plant or the like, with H2O2, a solid having a rough surface, e.g. active carbon or zeolite is used. The amounts of H2O2 and the active carbon as an assistant used in this method are preferably 200W300kg and 20W30kg, respectively, for 1m3 of the waste water.
