Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a compact muffler for simple structure for an enclosed compressor or the like, by providing an opening in the wall of a pipe which defines a gas passage and by securing the muffler body, which is made of a thin sheet, in tight contact with the pipe so that the muffler body communicates with the pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A pipe 12, which defines a gas passage in an enclosed compressor, is bent at a prescribed curvature. A slender opening 13 is provided in the inner part of the bent portion of the pipe 12 so that the opening 13 extends in the axial direction of the pipe. A muffler body 14, which is made of a thin sheet and comprises a top facet 15, a bottom facet 16, both side facets 17 and a rear facet 18, is secured to cover the opening 13. An opening 19, whose width B is not more than the outside diameter of the pipe 12 and whose length L corresponds to that of the opening 13, is provided in the muffler body 14 opposite the rear facet 18 so that the interior of the muffler body 14 communicates with that of the pipe 12. This results in providing an expansion-type muffler in which space surrounded by the pipe 12 and the muffler body 14 serves as a silencing chamber.
