Abstract

PURPOSE: A nematic liquid crystal for display device that consists of a mixture of a specific Nn-type ester and a biphenyl, thus being stable over a wide temperature range, permitting the arbitrary setting of the threshold value, promptly responding and being especially suitable for the time-sharing driving system.
CONSTITUTION: To a mixed liquid crystal system composed of at least one selected from compounds of formula I (R1 is n-CmH2m+1, n-CmH2m+1O, n-CmH2m+1CO; R2 is n-CqH2q+1, n-CqH2q+1O, n-CqH2q+1CO; m, q are 1W10) and at least one of compound of formula II (R3 is n-CrH2r+1; R4 is n-CsH2s+1; r, s are 1W10) are, when needed, added a nematic liquid crystal with a positive dielectric constant and/or a nematic liquid crystal analogy with a positive dielectric constant anisotropy by more than 2wt% to give the objective liquid crystal.
