Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent an Mn vapor from being filled in a furnace by arranging a metal easily alloying with Mn above a Ti-Mn alloy at a time when heat treatment is carried out in an inert gas atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: In a stainless steel container 1, a lump like Ti-Mn alloy 2 is inserted and a metal 4 easily alloying with foam like or fibrous Mn, that is, nickel, iron or copper is arranged thereabove through a porous support 3. After the inside of the container is completely degassed to remove an oxygen gas, while an inert gas alone or an inert gas containing a hydrogen gas is flowed thereinto or under a condition filled with said gas, a temp. is raised and said container is held at an inner pressure of about 0.5W1.5atm. and at a temp. of about 1,100°C for about 20hr. Thereby, Mn evaporated from a surface of the alloy 2 is alloied with the metal 4 to form a stable alloy and the Mn vapor is prevented from being filled in the container.
