Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the quality of a finished surface, linearity, shape and the like by a method wherein an AE transducer is used for detecting the contact between a grindstone and a work and the feed speed is changed over to a rough feed speed correctly at the instant of starting a grinding operation, in a gap eliminator system.
CONSTITUTION: An AE (accoustic emission effect) transducer 1 is fitted to a work rest 2 of a grinder and it generates AE waves in a range of several KHzW several MHz when the grindstone contacts with the work. A controlling section 4 incorporates a secondary amplifier and an output relay, and various speed commands are fed to a driving device 6 for a cross slide through a cutting-in speed command circuit 5. A reset signal 7 commands the releasing of the output relay or the starting of a measurement. In addition, the AE signal generated by the transducer 1 detects the contact between the grindstone and the work, enabling to change over the speed to the rough feed speed correctly at the instant of starting the grinding operation. Accordingly, the quality of the finished surface, linearity, shape and the like can be enhanced.
