Abstract
PURPOSE:To constitute a primary or a secondary small chargable battery, which has a large discharge capacity and a high energy density, by using tetracyanoquinodimethane as a positive active material. CONSTITUTION:In the figure, a brass case 1 plated with Ni, a negative lithium electrode 2, a porous polypropylene diaphragm 3, and a felt 4 made of carbon fiber are illustrated. As an electrolyte for the battery, 1mol/l solution of Li ClO4 dissolved in distilled dehydrated propylene carbonate is used. The diaphragm 3, the felt 4 and a positive mixture 5 are prepared by mixing 0.1g of TCNQ and 0.1g of acetylene black. The open circuit voltage of thus prepared battery was 3.50V. When discharge was carried out at a constant current of 1mA, the relationship between the discharge time and the voltage was as indicated in the figure. Until the voltage of the battery decreased to 1V, the discharge capacity was 296Ah/kg of TCNQ, and the energy density was 369Wh/kg of TCNQ.
