Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve accurate, highly reliable and inexpensive sealing, by having a funnelform flared part sealed tight to the outer boundary of a transparent open of the cover with use of an inorganic sealant, in regard to the structure of electrode sealing parts of a discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION:When stems 16a and 16b are inserted into where they should be, paste is seldom pressed out into a transparent open 14 and it is uniformalized in the circumferential direction of a flared part 20. Since these stems 16a and 16b are inserted in so as to cause the flared part 20 to come in contact with the circumferential edge of the transparent open 14, the positioning is accurate enough and no longer dislocated in the subsequent process. At the time of melting of a glass slit 22, there is no cast-soldering failure thanks to the effect that glass slit 22 does not flow into the transparent open 14 in combination with the effect that distortion stress is apt to escape to a pitch part 19. What is more, the stems 16a and 16b may be applied with those being used in ordinary fluorescent lamps so that high reliability plus economical manufacturing are attainable.
