Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate the size (diameter) of a disk, by comparing time, which is necessary for a motor which turns the disk, to attain a prescribed revolutional number, with prescribed reference time. CONSTITUTION:A detecting circuit 3 outputs a high-level signal when a motor 1 which rotates a disk attairs a prescribed revolutional number. The required time for that is denoted as T. A timer 4 generates prescribed reference time TR. A discriminating circuit 5 compares the time of the detection circuit 3 with the time of the timer 4 to discriminate the diameter of the disk. Namely, the diameter of the disk is large when T>TR, and small when T<TR. The discrimination output of the discriminating circuit 5 is latched by a trailing latch circuit 6, which is reset by a stop signal for commanding the stopping of the motor 1.
