Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve dispersibility, surface smoothness, and magnetic characteristics by mixing a titanium coupling agent as a binder component into a magnetic layer which contains a cellulose resin. CONSTITUTION:To a magnetic paint which contains dispersed magnetic powder while nitrocellulose, acetylcellulose, acetobutylcellulose, or other cellulosic resin is used as a binder component, a 0.1-10wt% titanium coupling agent expressed by a formula (RO)4-Ti-(X-Y)2 (where R is a hydrocarbon group or CH2-(C2H5)- (CH2-CH2-CH=CH2)2, X and Y are P and -(O-R1)2OH respectively, and R1 is an alkyl group) and based upon the magnetic powder is added. Then, a base is painted with this magnetic paint, thus obtaining a magnetic recording medium.
