Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively adsorb waste oils from ships with an oil adsorbent stretched along a sea route and to enable its use over a long period, by successively forming a float layer, an oil-adsorbing layer and optionally a surface- protecting layer around a rope-shaped body to form the oil adsorbent.
CONSTITUTION: A float layer 2 is arranged in a manner such that the surface of a rope-shaped body 1 is covered with the float layer 2. The float layer 2 is formed, for instance, by winding a sheet-like or mesh-shaped expanded synthetic resin body as a single layer or a multilayer around said rope-shaped body 1. An oil-adsorbing layer 3 comprising a material having a cotton-like state such as a synthetic fiber, e.g. polyolefin fiber, or a natural fiber, e.g. used paper pulp or pulp tails, is further arranged on the float layer 2, to form an oil adsorbent. If necessary, a surface-protecting layer 4 may be arranged on the oil adsorbent by use of a material such as a plastic net or a rubber sheet having numerous holes.
