Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform on-site connection work of steel piles in a short time for fortifying the soft ground of railway by a method in which supplementary steel piles are butted with steel piles driven halfway and welded electrically to form long steel piles, and then the long steel piles are driven completely. CONSTITUTION:The lower end face of a supplementary steel pile 23 is butted with the upper end face of a steel pile 16 to be driven, and then the butted faces of them are pressed by moving downwards the supplementary steel pile 23 clamped by an upper receiving plate 33, an electric conductive plate 32, a fitting part 34, cylinders 24 and 25, and electrodes 21 and 22 by operaing press cylinders 36 and 37. Then, electric current is supplied between the clamped portions of both the steel piles 16 and 23 through the upper and lower electrodes 21, 22, 14 and 15 under pressure to melt the butted portions of both the steel piles, and a strong instantaneous pressing is applied to the butted portion under the heated and melted condition for welding both the steel piles.
