Abstract
PURPOSE:To present a matrix fuel cell casily performed with maintenance and inspection and provided with high reliability, by providing a cartridge type storage part of electrolyte removably mounted to the cell. CONSTITUTION:A cell pile 1 comprises negative and positive gas electrodes 2, 3, constituting an unit cell, a matrix 4 and carbon gas separator plates 7, formed with hydrogen and air supply paths 5, 6 interposed between said unit cells and placed in the direction mutually crossing with their both surfaces. Recessed grooves 8, opened with one end to an end face, are formed around the gas separator plates 7. An electrolyte holding unit 9, removably insertable to the recessed groove 8, is prepared by a good liquid holding powder molded material of porous carbon plate, carbon paper, silicone carbide and zirconium. A cover unit 10, integrally formed with said electrolyte holding unit 9, is used with a non-porous carbon plate not to absorb an electrolyte, when the holding unit 9 is inserted into the recessed groove 8, the cover unit serves to enclose an opening end face of the recessed groove 8.
