Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit the detection of the size of paper without increasing the number of sensors by using a system in which when a sensor detects the uppermost end of a paper strip, the amount of the paper strip to be inserted is obtained by the operating amount of a feeding means, and from the amount obtained, the crosswise width of the paper strip is obtained. CONSTITUTION:When an insertion command signal from an outside system 24 is supplied through an interface 23 to a controller 21, single paper strip preset in a single strip inserter is inserted by a pulse motor 17 driven by the operation of the controller 21 through a single strip inserter drive circuit 18. When the rear end of the paper strip is detected by a sensor 19, the insertion of the paper strip is stopped. Also, pulse number sent to the drive circuit 18 by the controller 21 for insertion is stored in a memory 22. On the basis of the pulse number stored in the memory 22 and table data previously stored, the size of the paper strip is detected and the effective printing range of a carriage is determined.
