Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare biaxially stretched polyethylene terephthalate embossed film excellent in thermal stability (available even under high temperatures of about 150-200 deg.C) by combining a special stretching condition and an embossing procedure. CONSTITUTION:Unstretched polyethylene terephthalate is oriented biaxially, 1.52 or less is given for the refrative index in the thickness direction and 1.59 or more is given for the longitudinal and/or lateral direction and then, if necessary, a thermal fixation (a heat treatment of about 150-240 deg.C for about 0.1- 5sec) is conducted. Next, the biaxially stretched film obtained is preheated by an infrared heater or heated air, etc. at about 150-240 deg.C and the film is let to pass between an embossing roll heated at 90-230 deg.C and a back-up roll, then the embossed film obtained is heat-treated at the temperature of (the embossing roll temperature -10 deg.C)-(the embossing roll temperature+130 deg.C) to obtain the product.
