Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an antitumor substance without side effects at a low cost, by cultivating an edible mushroom mycelium belonging to basidiomycetes in a culture medium containing a fibrous component belonging to the genus gramineous plants, and extracting the active constituent from the resultant culture.
CONSTITUTION: An edible mycelium belonging to basidiomycetes is cultivated in a solid or liquid culture medium containing fibrous compnents of gramineous plants essentially. Lentinus edodes Sing. (SHIITAKE mushroom), Pleurotus ostreatus Quel and Flammulina velutipes Sing. may be cited as the basidiomycete. Bagasse (pressed sugar canes), corn, rice straw, etc. may be cited as the gramneous plants. An aqueous solvent is then added to the mycelial culture, and the extract is filtered to give the aimed antitumor substance. The resultant substance has improved carcinogenic preventing effect, longevity effect on the autogenous carcinogenic bearing state without affecting the normal cells.
