Abstract

PURPOSE:To adjust automatically the loop gain of a tracking servo circuit to an optimum value of less tracking deviation, by detecting the level of a tracking controlling reference signal for tracking-off state and setting the loop gain of the tracking servo circuit to an allowable maximum value on a basis of the detected level. CONSTITUTION:A reproduced high frequency signal due to a reproducing stylus 4 from a disc 1 is not only supplied to band pass filters 6 and 7 and an fp3 detector 8 through a preamplifier 5 but also supplied to a tracking signal level detector 10. The tracking signal level detector 10 detects the level variance of a tracking signal fp1 or fp2 or the level variance of the sum of both tracking signals as, for example, as a peak level and supplies the level detection signal to a gain controlling circuit 22. The output control signal of the gain controlling circuit 22 is supplied to voltage control amplifiers 11 and 12 to control respective gains, thus controlling automatically the loop gain of the tracking servo circuit to a prescribed value.
