Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable detecting abnormality simply and reliably in such a way that a detector to detect vibration or sound is installed on the outside of any of a fuel pump, a high pressure pipe or a fuel injection valve.
CONSTITUTION: In the fuel injection system of a Diesel engine which are assembled by a fuel pump 1, a high pressure pipe 2, a fuel injection valve 3, etc., for example, a vibration detector (unshown in the figure) is installed on the head part of the fuel injection valve 3, the process is done by filtering proper frequency band and so on in order to seek process signal wave form (e) at the head part of the injection valve 3 to the needle lift signal wave form (b) of the fuel injection valve. Then, data of various operating conditions are analyzed, and opening and closing periods of the fuel injection valve 3 can be detected from ascent and descent C, D of the process signal wave form (e). Besides, if the pattern of the detecting signal (e) in case of normal operation is compared with the detecting signal (e)' in case where for example, opening valve pressure of the injection valve 3 has been decreased, one can easily detect the abnormality.
