Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent leakage of mud into ground pores in mud flush excavation, by using drilling mud containing powdered resin with high water absorbing capacity.
CONSTITUTION: Ground is excavated by the use of drilling mud containing powdered resin with high water absorbing capacity. The resin is swelled with water and fills large pores between gravels, while small pores are filled with other components of the mud. Thus, water checking mud cake is formed on the wall surface of drilled ditch and cut face and leakage of the mud is prevented. The powdered resin should absorb water in an amount at least the times, pref. scores to hundreds of times as much as its own weight, and retain its weight in a swelled state without being dissolved. Preferred resins are heat-treated modified polyvinyl alcohol containing carboxyl group, a copolymer of an α- olefin and maleic anhydride or its derive. and a crosslinked neutralization product thereof.
