Abstract

PURPOSE:To heighten sealing performance in the operation of an engine, by providing annular grooves on the peripheral part of a piston and the inside part of a cylinder and fitting O-rings in the grooves so that the rings are put in contact with the peripheral cylindrical parts of the cylinder and the piston inwards in the radial direction of an air clutch. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary plate 30 is secured on the end wall 27 of a piston 26 and faces the end wall 21 of a cylinder 20. An annular groove 31 is defined between the plate 30 and the peripheral edge 29 of the piston 26. An O-ring 32 is fitted in the groove 31 so that the ring is tightly fitted on both the side walls of the groove and put in contact with the peripheral part 22 of the cylinder 20 inwards in the radial direction of an air clutch. The inside part 23 of the cylinder 20 is provided with an annular groove 35 in which an O-ring 53 is fitted so that the ring is put in contact with the peripheral part 28 of the piston 26 inwards in the radial direction of the clutch. When the O-rings 32, 33 are expanded by the centrifugal force or heat, the rings are put in higher pressure contact with the cylinder 20 and the piston 26 to heighten the sealing performance.
