CONSTITUTION: The steel contg., by wt%, 0.2W0.5% C, ≤3% Si, ≤2% Mn, 2W7% Cr, and if necessary, 1 or ≤2 kinds of ≤2% Ni, ≤2% Mo, ≤1% W, ≤1% V, and ≤0.5% Nb+Ta, and consisting of the balance Fe is prepd. The steel for intake valves of a low cost which is highly resistant to corrosion (oxidation, lead corrosion, etc.), softening and abrasion, and has excellent warm or cold valve formability is obtained. It is possible to add 1 or ≥2 kinds of about 0.03W0.3% Si, about 0.002W0.1% Pb and 0.001W0.02% Ca in order to improve machineability.
