Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a plate having a desired plate thickness distribution in the lateral direction of the plate and with less plate bending, by adjusting press- down quantities of the manipulating side and those of the driving side of a roll mill respectively based on measurements of half-gauge quantities in the lateral direction of the plate to be rolled. CONSTITUTION:Plate thicknesses at 3 positions in the lateral direction of a steel plate 14 are measured by a gamma-ray thickness tester 20 disposed on the delivery side of a roll mill 16. A half-gauge arithmetic device 22 calculates a half-gauge quantity DELTAh and a half-gauge correction arithmetic device 24 calculates a low press-down deviation DELTAS i.e. the difference between the press-down quantity in the driving side and the same quantity in the manipulating side of a roll mill so that the half-gauge quantity DELTAh is set to zero. A press-down position controller 30 regulates hydraulic power cylinders 38 and 40 by outputting correction commands to servo-valves 32 and 34 so that the difference between the press-down position SOP defined by the hydraulic power cylinder 38 in the manipulating side and the press-down position SDR defined by the hydraulic power cylinder 40 in the driving side is equal to the press-down deviation DELTAS. Consequently, a normal plate having a symmetrical thickness distribution laterally is obtained by performing a rolling process having a inclination between upper and lower roller 10, 12.
