Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the strength of the shadow mask and to reduce the welding distortion considerably, by forming the outer-circumference of the non-porous section to have such curvature that the width at the non-porous section will become wider at the center of each outer-circumferential side. CONSTITUTION:The shadow mask 1 is comprised of an approximately rectangular and curved porous section 1a and a non-porous section 1b conducted with the porous section 1a through the skirt section 1c, where the outer circumference of the non-porous section 1b is formed to have such curvature as the width (b) of said non-porous section 1b will be wider at the central portion of each outer circumferential side. Said porous section 1a is reduced to the limit dimension H'X V' to be actually used as the picture image thereby the width (b) of the non- porous section 1b is made wider as much. Consequently the width (b) of the non- porous section 1b can be set wide and the strength of the shadow mask 1 can be improved considerably resulting in the reduction of the welding distortion.
