Abstract

PURPOSE:To detecting varying densities always accurately by mounting a sliding member movably in the other end part of a photosensitive drum in its axial longitudinal direction, and providing a cleaning member for a toner density detecting element in a part of said member. CONSTITUTION:A toner density detecting element 21 is constituted by molding a light emitting element 22a and a photodetector 22b detecting reflectd light to one body by a resin or the like, and is mounted to a supporting member 3. A notched part is formed to a paper guiding plate 23 mounted integrally or separately to the member 3 so that the element 21 faces the photosensitive drum without the hindrance of the route for light. A cleaning member 26 which cleans the element 22a and the detector 22b during sliding is provided to a cleaning plate 25, and its one end is fixed to a sliding member 8 through the long hole 27 of the member 3. Through-holes 28 are provided respectively in the corresponding places of the elements 22a, 22b so as not to interfere light emission and detection during copying operation.
