Abstract

PURPOSE:To iluminate markers which are linearly continued, by use of a single light source, by setting a difference of the refractive index of a core material and a clad material of a clad type optical fiber, in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:In a leakage optical fiber 1, the circumference of a core 2 having a high refractive index is surrounded by a clad 3 having a comparatively low refractive index, and it is further coated with a transparent protective layer 4. A clad type optical fiber is constituted in this way, and a difference of the refractive index of the core 2 and the clad 3 is set within the range of 0.05-0.1% of the refractive index of the core 2. In case a difference of the refractive index of the core 2 and the clad 3 is 0.1% or more, the quantity of leakage light is decreased remarkably, therefore, the quantity of illumination light becomes short, and in the event of 0.05% or less, the quantity of leakage light is increased and it becomes impossible to uniformly illuminate the illumination range. In case this leakage optical fiber is used for an optical information transmission line, for instance, the leakage optical fiber 1 is connected in advance between usual optical fibers 8, and a light source such as a light emission diode, which emit a light beam by an electric signal is placed in a light source box 5.
