Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound which is a modifier for synthetic resins, in high yield and purity, by reacting isocyanuric acid with allyl chloride in the presence of tri-n-propylamine, washing the resultant product in a given order, distilling off the solvent, and finally rectifying the product.
CONSTITUTION: Cyanuric acid and tri-n-propylamine at a molar ratio of 1:(3W 3.9) are added to o-dichlorobenzene solvent, and 3W3.9 moles, based on one mole cyanuric acid, allyl chloride is added thereto while keeping the solution at 105°C or above with stirring. The reaction mixture is heated to react 95% or more cyanuric acid at 180°C or below. The resultant reaction solution is cooled and washed with water to recover the organic layer, which is then similarly washed with dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute aqueous solution of sodium carbonate, and water in the order to recover the organic layer. The washing and recovery operations are repeated. The solvent is distilled from the resultant organic layer, and the recovered crude product is rectified to give the aimed triallyl isocyanurate ≥99.9%.
