Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high purity, by reacting prussic acid with acetone in the presence of an alkali catalyst, neutralizing the reaction solution with an acid, recovering the prussic acid and the acetone in the first distilling step, and distilling off the moisture in the second step.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali catalyst 1, prussic acid 2 and acetone 3 are fed to a reactor 4. After the completion of the reaction, the resultant reaction solution 5 is neutralized with an acid 7 and adjusted to a given pH. The reaction solution 5 is then subjected to the separation of the formed and deposited salt by a filter 8 and fed to the first distilling column 9. In the course of the transfer, a part 12 of the distilled water from the second distilling column 10 is added thereto, and the moisture of bottoms is adjusted to 2W10wt%. The first step distillation is carried out at a bottom temperature of 110°C or below to recover the prussic acid and the acetone. The second distillation is further carried out in the second distilling column 10 at 10W70 Torr and a bottom temperature of 110°C or below. The moisture is then distilled away and separated from the top, and bottoms 18 are passed through a cooler 19 to obtain the aimed purified acetone cyanhydrin efficiently.
