Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a tape player small-sized, by arranging a casing, which is provided with reproducing and tape driving means so that they can be separated and connected in the horizontal direction, movably for cartridges piled in a rack in vertical and horizontal directions. CONSTITUTION:Cartridges 50 are piled in a rack 31 fixedly in vertical and horizontal directions, and a sliding plate 4 provided with a tape driving means and a reproducing means is mounted movably in the horizontal direction on a casing which is moved vertically by a wire 33 and is moved horizontally by the rack and a pinion. After allowing tape reproducing and driving means to face to a cartridge 50 to be selected, the sliding plate 4 is moved forward in the horizontal direction to bring these means into contact with a tape 52, and the reproducing is started. When playing is terminated, these means are moved backward and are moved to a cartridge 50 to be selected next; and thus, the capacity occupied by many cartridges is reduced to make an automatic tape player small-sized.
