Abstract
PURPOSE:To extend the effective recording area on a tape and to eliminate the vacant time at data recording and reproduction, through the relation between an interval on a head for a reproducing head and a recording head, and a signal location of data and address signal tracks. CONSTITUTION:An interval L between a preceding reproducing head R and a succeeding recording head W is equal to an interval between a 19a in a data track 19 and a write start signal position in an address track 18, and an internal lW-R between W and R in the same set is equal for all the set. The relation of xD/N=L+lW-R is obtained, where D is a diameter of a rotor 29, when N sets of the heads are at equal interval. Thus, for example, a head W2 reads a signal in the 1st servo signal region 16, the arrangement error between a track 19 and W2, R2 is detected, a preceding R1 reads an address signal to discriminate whether or not the track is a desired track. If the discrimination is satisfactory, recording is made with the succeeding W2 by taking a write start signal on a track 18 as a control signal and reproduction is made with the succeeding R2 by taking the output of an encoder as a control signal.
