Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain steel of high toughness by saved energy and at a low cost, by heating a continuously cast steel ingo to a specific temperature, rolling it, and subsequently, cooling it at a speed exceeding air-cooling. CONSTITUTION:A steel ingot manufactured by a continuous casting method is heated to Ac3-700 deg.C and is rolled. By this heating and rolling, the fine steel structure of crystal grains cooled quickly by continuous casting is maintained in the rolling process, too. A steel material rolled to finishing dimensions by this method is cooled by air-cooling or at a higher speed than air-cooling, by which it is prevented that the steel structure becomes rough. In this way, it is possible to obtain a steel material which is excellent in its strength and toughness, at low heating and rolling temperature.
