Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of defects on the surface of a vacuum-deposited sensitive layer and to improve the negatively charging characteristics by vacuum- depositing an intermediate layer preventing the formation of a barrier between the Al substrate and the sensitive Se layer. CONSTITUTION:While rotating an Al cylinder about a central axis, an intermediate layer of Ni or Au having a smaller difference in work function between it and Se than Al has between it and Se is vacuum-deposited on the cylinder in 1Angstrom -10mum thickness. A sensitive Se layer is then vacuum-deposited in 70mum thickness. Se has 4.72eV work function. On the other hand, Al, Ni and Au have 3.74eV, 4.84eV and 4.58eV, respectively.
