Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatize the magnetic tape test and the capacity appreciation, by recording test item numbers and test signals in time series from a prescribed test tape position through a tape position detecting circuit and reproducing these numbers and signals to perform the test. CONSTITUTION:The tape wind start, the wind middle, and the wind end due to a single signal of a constant frequency recorded on a testing magnetic tape 11 of a magnetic recording and reproducing device 1 are detected by a tape position detecting circuit 31 of a tape position detector 3, and the tape is automatically set to the wind start position through a controlling circuit 4. Test item numbers and test signals from a test signal genertor 5 are recorded successively in time series by a mark signal generating circuit 32. After these recordings are automatically searched by the single signal, they are reproduced, and test item numbers are confirmed through the circuit 31 and a mark signal detecting circuit 33; and on a basis of corresponding test signals, the testing magnetic tape 11 is automatically tested and the capacity is automatically appreciated by a measuring equipment 6 or the like.
