Abstract

PURPOSE: To know clearly the maximum recording level for each type of magnetic tape, by recording the high- and low-band record signals onto the tape running in a prescribed speed along with variation of their levels and then fixing the level varying device based on the converting time point detection signal from increase to decrease of the reproduced output.
CONSTITUTION: The high- and low-band signals of the frequency signal used for the magnetic tape are turned into the record signals having varying levels by the level varying devices 32 and 52 and then recorded on the magnetic tape 1 running in a prescribed speed through the recording heads 7 and 8. At the same time, these records are reproduced through the reproduction heads 9 and 10, and the comparators 66 and 49 of the high-/low-band maximum recording level detecting circuits 59 and 43 each exceed the maximum recording level. And the output is inverted to a low level at the time point when the reproduced output changes from increase to decrease, thus fixing the devices 32 and 52. As a result, the maximum recording level can be known clearly in accordance with the magnetic tape through the display of the maximum recording level on the 1st and 2nd display devices 34 and 54.
