Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify a cam mechanism, by eccentrically mounting rocker arms on a rocker shaft and using a single cam to drive two intake valves. CONSTITUTION:Two intake valves 2 are juxtaposed on a cylinder. Two rocker arms 5 are eccentrically mounted on an eccentric rocker shaft 8. Since the tips of the rocker arms 5 are juxtaposed in contact with a cam on a cam shaft, the two rocker arms can be driven by the single cam. The range of swing of the arms 5 can be changed by a quantity corresponding to the eccentricity of their mounted position, to alter the lift of the two intake valves 2 to cause a swirl. Since only one cam is provided, the cost is reduced.
