Abstract

PURPOSE:To communicate with high reliability as to the transmitted content, by picking up characteristics of a picture for the content of an original and of a picture for the content of recording, transmitting the result of pickup between transmission and reception sides mutually and comparing them. CONSTITUTION:A transmitted original is converted into an electric signal at a transmission side photoelectric converter 11, amplified into a suitable amplitude at a signal processor 41 and transmitted to a communication side communication controller 43 after correction of distortion. An electric signal corresponding to a character pickup region is cut out at the processor 41 and given to a transmission side character pickup device 42, where the ratio of the number of black picture elements to all the number of picture elements in this region is counted, this ratio (a) is picked up as a characteristic amount and transmitted to a reception side. On the other hand, at the reception side, a signal received by a communication controller 46 is given to a recorder 47, a visual image recorded in the recorder 47 is converted into an electric signal again at a reception side photoelectric converter 48 to provide a characteristic amount (b) obtained at the device 48. This amount (b) is compared with the characteristic amount (a) at the transmission side.
