Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the operations of a play-down mechanism and a turn-up mechanism under the same condition, by successively shifting said two mechanisms along a direction apart from a forming drum in response to the winding number of a carcass ply, and operating the two mechanisms. CONSTITUTION:Each cylinder is driven to set a rod 12a under a projecting condition and to set rods 19a, 20a under a retreating condition. A primary carcass ply A is wound round a drum 1. The rod 20a and then the rod 19a are projected. The overhanging part Aa of the carcass ply A is squeezed by a play-down finger 24. A bead-setting ring 23 is pushed forwards, to press and bond a primary bead wire B1. Thereafter, a turn-up bladder 28 is expanded to press the overhanging part Aa along the outside surface of the drum 1 from its shoulder. A hook 14 is then engaged with a guide bar 11 by a cylinder or the like, a secondary carcass ply C is wound round the primary carcass ply A, and the same operation is repeated. In this way, play-down and turn-up are done at a position apart by the width of the hook 14 from the drum 1.
